SRO’s ensure safety, serve in many ways

Dear Benton Families,

As I have mentioned over the past couple of weeks, we will this fall be sharing a few stories of how referendum dollars support our daily efforts and make “Better in Benton” more than a catch phrase.

Today we begin these stories with a look at the many ways in which our School Resource Officers ensure school safety as our top priority. We are proud to have two full-time SRO’s dedicated to ensuring a secure and supportive environment.

Thanks to 2020 referendum dollars, we were able to add a second SRO, focused on our elementary schools. Now in our third year with two SROs, they guide students, facilitate conflict resolution, organize and implement prevention plans, mentor students and problem-solve for the benefit of students, staff, parents and visitors alike.

The badges, guns and uniforms are always present - along with the marked squad vehicles - and these factors alone impart a sense of security. But SRO’s Ben Schutter and Chad Runk utilize their training and skills in many other ways to provide many additional benefits to students, staff and community.
